Chicago Run Receives a Grant for Program Evaluation

In May 2009, the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC), through funding by the Chicago Community Trust, awarded Chicago Run a $20,000 seed grant for an evaluation of its running programs in the Chicago Public Schools. The key researcher in the evaluation will be Dr. Kelly Lowry, a pediatric psychologist at Children's Memorial Hospital and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University. The mission of CLOCC is to promote healthy lifestyles in Chicago children, obtain data-driven results of existing programs aimed at curbing childhood obesity, and support academic-community collaborations. Dr. Lowry will be evaluating three schools over the course of the 2009-2010 year. The evaluation will examine the following: physical activity impact (stamina, endurance, BMI), behavioral and psychological impact (self-esteem, attendance, behavior, attention span); and consumer satisfaction (students, teachers, and parents). The results of this evaluation will provide Chicago Run, its schools, and its funders with important information regarding the programs' efficacy and help Chicago Run further the development of its programs and increase funding opportunities. For more information regarding CLOCC, please visit their website at:
