        <![CDATA[<div><span class="mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image" style="display: inline;"><img alt="" src="http://www.chicagorun.org/news/upload/2009/10/CLOCClogowebsite.jpg" width="206" height="124" class="mt-image-none" style="" /></span></div>In May 2009, the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC), through funding by the Chicago Community Trust, awarded Chicago Run a $20,000 seed grant for an evaluation of its running programs in the Chicago Public Schools. &nbsp;The key researcher in the evaluation will be Dr. Kelly Lowry, a pediatric psychologist at Children's Memorial Hospital and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University. &nbsp;The mission of CLOCC is to promote healthy lifestyles in Chicago children, obtain data-driven results of existing programs aimed at curbing childhood obesity, and support academic-community collaborations. &nbsp;Dr. Lowry will be evaluating three schools over the course of the 2009-2010 year. &nbsp;The evaluation will examine the following: physical activity impact (stamina, endurance, BMI), behavioral and psychological impact (self-esteem, attendance, behavior, attention span); and consumer satisfaction (students, teachers, and parents). &nbsp;The results of this evaluation will provide Chicago Run, its schools, and its funders with important information regarding the programs' efficacy and help Chicago Run further the development of its programs and increase funding opportunities. &nbsp;For more information regarding CLOCC, please visit their website at: <a href="http://www.clocc.net">www.clocc.net</a>. <!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->

The Health and Medicine Policy Group was created 28 years ago as an independent, not-for-profit research and advocacy institute with a focus on health care for the poor and underserved in Illinois. Run is looking for volunteers to help at our Bank of America Chicago Marathon Aid Station 15 at mile 20. On <b>Sunday, October 11</b>&nbsp;volunteers will need to arrive at <b>6:00am</b> and stay until <b>2:00pm</b>. All volunteers receive a Nike Jacket from the marathon (see picture below). Jackets are first come first served. All of the athletes completed the 5k course and each one of them set new personal record times in the process. Prior to the run, the kids received new &nbsp;Nike shoes ensuring their advantage over the competition.&nbsp;Parents and family members also joined in on the fun as they joined us for the bus ride to the start line and cheered on their kids. It was a fantastic event and everyone had a blast! Annual 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk to honor the 21 CPS schools involved in our
programs.&nbsp; Over 1,500 students, teachers, and parents participated in this
healthy and active event which was supported by Bank of America, Aetna, Nike,
Running Away, and the Pritzker Traubert Family Foundation.&nbsp; The event
featured two U.S. Olympic athletes, William Scherr (wrestling) and Connie Moore
(track and field), who led the kids in warm-up stretches before their big race!</p>

        <![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal">On Thursday, July 30<sup>th</sup>, the 12 kids of the
Chicago Running Mates program enjoyed an exciting field trip to the lakefront.
They ran about 3 miles in total along the path, running south of the
Planetarium. Parents also joined in on the fun as they cheered on their kids.
The workout culminated in a final sprint to the top of hill and at the end, the
kids finished up the morning with some light and healthy snacks with their
parents and Chicago Run staff.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p> ]]>

elementary schools participated in the 2nd Annual Chicago Run One Mile Fun Run
at Douglas Park, sponsored by Bank of America, Aetna, and Nike.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">&nbsp; </span>This annual event is a celebration of the
more than 4,000 CPS students who participate in the Chicago Run programs which
promote the health and wellness of Chicago children through innovative,
engaging, and sustainable youth running programs.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">&nbsp; </span>The event also included over 400 parents,

For decades, the organization has mentored and trained both individuals and organizations, many of whom have gone on to make a significant impact on the communities they serve.</div><div><br /></div><div>Nominations were reviewed by a 10-person selection committee of corporate and nonprofit professionals who exemplify the leadership recognized with these awards. Several factors were considered when judging the nominees work: 

</div><div><br /></div><div><ul><li>The commitment to eliminating race and class barriers </li><li>An innovative approach </li><li>Impactful documented results in the community</li></ul><div>The Award will be presented at a reception highlighting the honorees' contributions to the community on May 16, 2009, at DePaul's Egan Urban Center, l E. running and community health initiatives, Chicago Run received a grant of
$50,000 to expand its programming to more schools in underserved
communities.  On January 26, 2009, Bank of America representatives,
including, Ms. Julie Chavez (Senior Vice President), presented the check to
Chicago Run at the Benjamin Mays Academy in Englewood.  As part of the
presentation assembly, Bank of America Associate Elite Marathon Runners
distributed incentives to the Chicago Run participants who have reached their
mileage goals of 15 miles, 20 miles, and 26.2 miles thus far.  Carey
Pinkowski, Executive Race Director for the Chicago Marathon, also shared some
words of wisdom regarding running and "going the distance".  All 135 Mays
Chicago Runners and their Chicago Run Coaches (Mays Teachers) were thrilled to
reach their mileage goals to date and are anticipating the Spring running
season and the 1-Mile Fun Run in June.</span></i></div></form>]]>
